Complete Electrical Wiring for New Residential Construction
Building a new home is one of the largest investments you'll ever make. The electrical system is the backbone of everything that makes a modern home comfortable, safe, and functional, and getting it right from the start is far less expensive than fixing mistakes after the drywall goes up. Coastline Electric Inc. has been wiring new homes across Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando, Polk, Pinellas, and Citrus counties since 1984, working alongside builders, general contractors, and owner-builders to deliver code-compliant, inspection-ready electrical systems on schedule.
Our process covers every phase of construction: temporary power for the job site, underground service entrance, rough-in wiring, panel installation, low-voltage pre-wiring for smart home and security systems, and final trim-out with all devices, fixtures, and cover plates. We pull every permit, coordinate with the utility company, and attend every inspection, so your builder never has to chase down the electrician.
Every Phase, Handled
Temporary Power & Job Site Service
We install the temporary power pole and meter base so your crew can power tools from day one. We coordinate the utility connection with TECO, Duke Energy, or Withlacoochee River Electric.
Underground Service Entrance
Trenching and installation of the underground service entrance conduit and conductors from the utility transformer to your main panel location, sized correctly for your home's load requirements.
Rough-In Wiring
All branch circuit wiring run before drywall, outlets, switches, lighting, kitchen and bath circuits, HVAC disconnect, dryer, range, and any dedicated circuits for appliances, hot tubs, or pools.
Panel Installation & Service Upgrade
Main panel installation with properly sized breakers, AFCI and GFCI protection where required by Florida code, and a clean, labeled directory. Most new homes are wired for 200-amp service; larger homes may require 400-amp.
Low-Voltage & Smart Home Pre-Wire
CAT6 data drops, coaxial cable, whole-home audio wiring, security camera conduit, and smart lighting control wiring. all run during rough-in when it's fast and inexpensive.
Final Trim-Out & Inspection
Installation of all devices (outlets, switches, dimmers), light fixtures, exhaust fans, panel cover, and final labeling. We schedule and attend the county final inspection and provide sign-off documentation.
Florida Code Requirements for New Construction
Florida follows the National Electrical Code (NEC) with state-specific amendments enforced by each county's building department. New residential construction in our service area must meet the following requirements, among others:
- AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection on all bedroom, living room, dining room, hallway, and closet circuits
- GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, outdoors, and within 6 feet of any water source
- Tamper-resistant outlets throughout the home
- Smoke detectors hardwired with battery backup in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every floor
- Carbon monoxide detectors hardwired in homes with attached garages or gas appliances
- Dedicated 20-amp circuits for kitchen countertop outlets and bathroom outlets
- Whole-home surge protection strongly recommended (required by some counties)
Coastline Electric stays current with all NEC and Florida code updates. We design your rough-in to pass inspection the first time, avoiding costly re-inspections that delay your certificate of occupancy.
Future-Proof Your New Home
New construction is the best opportunity to build in infrastructure that would be expensive to add later. We recommend every new home owner consider the following during rough-in:
EV Charger Circuit
A dedicated 50-amp, 240V circuit to the garage costs very little to add during rough-in. Installing it later requires opening walls and running wire through finished spaces.
Generator Transfer Switch
Pre-wiring for a whole-home standby generator or installing a manual transfer switch during construction is far less expensive than retrofitting after the home is complete.
Whole-Home Surge Protector Installation
A main-panel surge protector installed during construction protects all electronics, HVAC equipment, and appliances from Florida's frequent lightning strikes and utility surges.
Structured Wiring Panel
A centralized low-voltage panel for CAT6, coaxial, and speaker wiring gives you a clean, organized hub for your home network, TV, and audio systems.
Outdoor Living Circuits
Dedicated circuits for the lanai, pool equipment, outdoor kitchen, and landscape lighting are easiest to run during construction before the slab and landscaping are complete.
Subpanel for Detached Garage or Workshop
If you plan a detached garage, workshop, or ADU, running the underground feeder during construction avoids expensive trenching through finished landscaping later.
