Florida Hurricane Season

Florida Averages Over 200 Outage Hours Per Year

Between hurricane season, afternoon thunderstorms, and aging grid infrastructure, Florida homeowners and businesses face some of the longest outage durations in the country. A permanently installed standby generator starts automatically, within seconds of an outage, and runs on natural gas or propane so you never have to haul fuel or pull a cord.

Automatic Startup

Power restored in 10–30 seconds, no action required

Whole-Home Coverage

Keep HVAC, refrigerator, medical equipment, and lights running

Permit-Ready Installation

We handle all county permits and final inspections

Brands We Install

We work with the industry's most trusted standby generator manufacturers. Each brand offers automatic standby systems engineered for Florida's climate and proven through decades of hurricane-season performance.

7 kW – 150+ kW

Generac

America's #1 Home Standby Generator

Generac invented the home standby category and remains the most widely installed brand in Florida. Air-cooled and liquid-cooled models available from 10 kW to 150+ kW. WiFi monitoring via Mobile Link included on most models.

10 kW – 150+ kW

Kohler

Industrial-Grade Reliability

Kohler generators are built to the same exacting standards as their commercial power systems. Known for quiet operation and premium enclosures. Excellent choice for homeowners who want industrial durability in a residential package.

10 kW – 20 kW

Briggs & Stratton

Proven Power, Competitive Value

Briggs & Stratton brings over 100 years of engine manufacturing experience to their standby generator line. Their Symphony II power management system intelligently prioritizes loads, allowing a smaller generator to power more of your home.

13 kW – 2,000+ kW

Cummins

Commercial-Grade for Demanding Applications

Cummins is the preferred choice for commercial and industrial standby power. Their QuietConnect residential series delivers exceptional sound attenuation, while their commercial line handles critical infrastructure from hospitals to data centers.

Licensed Electricians

Generator installation is electrical work. not just appliance placement. Our licensed electricians handle the transfer switch, load calculations, and code-compliant wiring that a generator installer alone cannot.

Permit & Inspection Included

We pull the electrical permit, coordinate with your gas provider, and schedule the county inspection. You get a fully permitted, inspection-passed installation. important for insurance and resale value.

40+ Years in Florida

Serving Florida since 1984, we've installed generators through multiple hurricane seasons. We know what holds up in Florida's heat, humidity, and storm conditions, and which installations fail.

Generator Installation. Frequently Asked Questions

What size generator do I need for my home?

Generator sizing depends on which loads you want to power during an outage. A 10–20 kW unit typically covers essential circuits (HVAC, refrigerator, lights, outlets). A whole-home system that runs everything simultaneously usually requires 22–26 kW or larger. Coastline Electric performs a load calculation at your property before recommending a specific unit.

Does Coastline Electric pull permits for generator installations?

Yes. Generator installations in Florida require an electrical permit and inspection. Coastline Electric handles all permit applications and coordinates the final inspection on your behalf, you don't need to deal with the county building department.

How long does a generator installation take?

A typical residential standby generator installation takes one to two days once the permit is approved. This includes setting the generator on its pad, installing the automatic transfer switch, running the gas line connection (coordinated with your gas provider), and completing the electrical hookup. Commercial installations vary based on system size.

What fuel type should I choose, natural gas or propane?

Natural gas is the most convenient option if your home already has a gas line, it never runs out and requires no tank refills. Propane is the right choice for homes without natural gas service and offers a large on-site fuel reserve. Both options are available with the brands we install.

What brands of generators does Coastline Electric install?

We install Generac, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, and Cummins standby generators. Each brand offers reliable automatic standby systems with proven track records in Florida's hurricane climate. We can help you compare models and select the right fit for your home or business.

Will my generator turn on automatically during a power outage?

Yes. All standby generators we install include an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS). When utility power is lost, the ATS detects the outage and starts the generator within seconds, typically 10 to 30 seconds, without any action required from you. When utility power is restored, the ATS transfers the load back and shuts the generator down.
